Each year we grow between 5 and 10 crops for seed. Starting with a very large population size we then do several rounds of selection where by we select for many different traits that we find important in that crop. Some of these traits are size, shape, color, taste, vigor, disease resistance and seed production. All of the varieties we grow for seed are crops that we grow for the local markets as well. This way, we really get to see the results of our work as the produce leaves the farm. The goal is to continue to select for traits that allow these various crops to thrive in our unique micro climate. Over time, these adaptations will give resilience to the farm.
