“Open Farm” Picnic and Meet and Greet

Hello Share Owners! Most of you have not been out to the farm before nor have you met us or the goats!  On May 18th we will be having an "open farm".  From 11am to 2pm you are invited to join us and others at the farm to meet the animals, see the facilities, and get a better sense for First Rain Farm. We encourage you to bring a picnic to enjoy on the sunny pastures. Feel free to invite friends who are interested in the herdshare  as well! Here are the direction to the farm: 1. 11 kids and counting!

Over the past seven days we have had 11 kids born!  5 girls and 6 boys!  We still have three more does that we expect to give birth within the week.   All the kids are doing great. The births have mostly been uncomplicated, with the exception of the latest doe, Comet. Comet gave birth to a large baby boy after much straining. Immediately following the labor she suffered a uterine prolapse. This means that her uterus was pushed out of her body. Grazing fresh green pastures

Here's a recent shot of the goats. They're grazing a pasture that we planted last August. We seeded it with a mixture of perennial grasses and legumes. The white netting surrounding the goats is a portable electric fence that allows us to move the goats everyday to a fresh area to graze. This allows the previous area to start regrowing the day after it is grazed.
